Nestled in the Nubian Desert is an archaeological basin that has ties to some of the most ancient cultures that inhabited Earth. There are many African sites that have been left to the devices of time, unprotected, and unexplored. Luckily, many of the sites have been preserved by the totally dry climate where they exist. It should be noted that during their periods of significance, the area flourished as a lush, humid Savanna, which could date as far back as 130,000 years B.C.E. Several astrophysicists suggest that stones left at the site of Napta Playa create a calendar that corresponds to constellations and significant times of the year cycle. It is believed that this particular site has been inhabited by a number of cultures throughout history and as the sky map changed over time, so did the meaning of some of the artifacts and fossils.
The first alignment identified was with the Orion constellation, specifically the belt of Orion around 500 B.C. Archeoastronomers from The University of Colorado have also suggested an alignment with Sirius around 6270-4820 B.C. Other research suggests that the site represents the Milky Way dating from 17,500 B.C. In most recent history, it has been associated with Taurus, and correlated to a number of nomadic cattle cults still prevalent in the area. You might think that this is unlikely, yet there is evidence to support all of these connections.
The stones are seen a mere few feet out of the sand, but they are buried ten feet deep on top of a carved bull rock, which sits on another carved rock of a more abstract shape. The very base carving has been crafted from the bedrock, in a similar fashion to the Sphinx.
Scientists generally agree that the site has an ancient significance and was used as a gathering site. This has been established by artifacts, symbolism, and burials. It is also accepted that more than one culture over a long period of history inhabited the site. The orientation of the megaliths, stele, human and cattle burials reveal a symbolic connection to the North. They believed the focus was of a cultural and practical importance, which represented water, death, earth, sun, and stars.
The site is in close proximity, within 100 kilometers from other Nile cultures, mostly to the East. This includes the Dogon, who are believed to be directly descended from the ancient Egyptians.
The Dogon culture has a modern day parallel to the ancient Egyptians. Dogon priests explain to etymologists of Egyptian hieroglyphics in detail the meaning of some of the symbols they use that the ancient Egyptians also used. Through this study, the scientists were able to establish symbolic patterns and redefine the translations of the hieroglyphs. Dogon cosmetology tells us how to more accurately interpret Egyptian hieroglyphs. It explains the multiple meanings of certain hieroglyphs. The Dogon seen to be born from a high class of Egyptian priests who left to found the culture that thrives in virtual seclusion today. The scientists explain, it is like our use of an acronym, for instance IMF. IMF stands for the International Monetary Fund, but most people, in many different cultures would recognize the shortened acronym. Using the new meanings of hieroglyphs, ancient Egyptian cosmology lends new insight into the world of modern physics. For instance, Stephen Hawking would tell you that the modern day string theory has over 200 possibilities. A Dogon high priest would tell you that there are 266 possibilities. Scientists have realized that the Egyptians had a far greater understanding of quantum physics and energy than we had known.
